When searching for villages in Europe – Hallstatt stood out, my heart was jumping from excitement and my mind was busy planing trip to the little paradise. Flight London – Salzburg was booked.
For someone, who has never seen mountains (only in photos), landing in Salzburg was a new experience – my face was glued to the airplane window, the views were breathtaking! And that was just the beginning. Rushed to the newspaper shop to buy a bus ticket, then jumped on the bus line number 2 as instructed from the kind lady in shop and followed the screen on the bus to get off the right stop – main train station (in German – Hauptbahnhof). If you are a budget traveler like me, train ticket bought in advance (at least 4 weeks before the trip) will save money. Ticket can be purchased online, once you find where to switch from German to English – pretty easy! Tickets can be bought here.
Train journey to Hallstatt was beautiful, villages with cute houses, decorated with flowers, small villages surrounded by mountains and I wonder how beautiful they look under deep snow… A train journey were falling asleep would be a crime! Not joking!
Got off the train with a big smile on my face! Inside I was jumping like a little kid from excitement, Hallstatt is stunning and not only on photos!
Hallstatt is a small village and it is very easy to find everything, however information centre is located few metres away from parking zone. Have to mention, Austrian people are friendly and helpful, in my experience – if you look lost, they’ll offer help even without asking for it! Hmm, maybe I looked too lost…
Packed with tourists, but not too overcrowded. Not sure about summer months as I was there in early October. To find a table at the restaurant, visit small shops and other touristic places was easy – no queues. There is a possibility to rent a boat and enjoy surroundings from the lake – beautiful experience!
Hallstatt is a beautiful destination and for people like me who travel solo, it is a safe destination.
Ahh, miss you Hallstatt!
