Charming city! I think I done the right choice to visit Ljubljana in December. Christmas market, decorations (oh, how beautiful the city looked in the evening!), the small outside cafes next to the river and the smell of mulled wine and that Christmas feeling what I was looking for – was there.
Ahh, don’t even know where to start! Have to admit, didn’t do much research and had a very little idea what to expect. I was in for a surprise – a beautiful surprise.
Decided to stay in Ribčev Laz, the closest village to Bohinj lake. If I remember correctly, about an hour drive on the bus or a bit less from Bled. As mentioned above – didn’t do much research and it turned out to be off season and Ribčev Laz was pretty much empty and almost all restaurants were closed. Luckily, there was a small grocery shop and a tourist information centre open. To be honest, it was enough and enjoyed that peacefulness around.
I was told Bled is similar to Hallstatt in Austria and should consider other place to go. And for a moment I found myself searching for other destinations, but something made me stick to Bled. And glad I did. Bled is nothing like Hallstatt, both places are incredibly beautiful, but far from similar. Without thinking more, booked flight, accommodation and bye London! Continue reading
When visiting Hallstatt, don’t forget about Obertraun! Really, don’t!
Obertraun is located near the Hallstatt Lake, just one train stop (around 3min) away from Hallstatt or for people who love long walks – an hour walk between the villages. Possible to rent bicycles near the Obertraun-Dachsteinhöhlen train station. Lots of options! Personally, I walked almost everywhere and enjoyed every single minute!
